National Safety Month Gun Safety Campaign

Safety Solutions Academy is the name of my company and it shouldn't…

0182 – Take It Slow

/
The heat here in NEO is oppressive today. We basicly went from high sixties/low seventies to 93 degrees today. It reminded me of how difficult things can be if we don't take it slow. We don't have much control over the weather but there are lots of other things we can control. When it is under our control and we want to do it right, take it slow!

0174 – How’s Your Training Going?

/
As a trainer and a teacher I have always placed learning pretty high on my list of things to do so it shouldn't be much of a surprise that I spend a good bit of my time learning. Today we will take a look at how you might organize your training and ways you can extend your resources to get that training in without breaking the bank.

0167 – You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know

/
You know that you love something when you are able to relate everything in life back to it. Today I talk about some seemingly unrelated examples, and how they relate to the need for reality based training in self defense.

0158 – The “Advanced” Myth

/
I'm a trainer. I love what I do. I enjoy teaching people and helping them to acquire new skills and develop skills they already have more throughly. I have every intention of someday being a billionaire from teaching training classes. Check on me in ten years to make sure I have kept my word, but the $50 I actually may make in the business is not going to be from ADVANCED classes. Being "Advanced" is cool.

0157 – Too Much Too Fast

/
Training is like building a home. We can't put on the roof until the walls are up. Putting switch plate covers on before the switch is wired in is a bit silly. I can't imagine putting in new carpeting before the drywall has been sanded and painted. You get the point. Doing too much too fast is a waste of time, energy and resources.

0152 – Download to Extend Your Resources

/
In today's computer age the word download is prevalent, however, when we head out to the range people tend to be more in the full capacity mindset. If a magazine holds 17 rounds we like to stuff it full. This only makes sense. Who pours half of a cup of coffee or has half a scoop of ice cream, or drinks half of a beer? The American way is to fill it up! Well just like in the previous examples loading our mags to partial capacity can have some benefits. Today we take a look at what the benefits might be to downloading our magazines.

0151 – Train in the Rain or whatever weather you are dealt

/
This past weekend, I spent a bunch of time recording podcasts and having general fun in the rain. I always do my best to make lemonade with the lemons life tries to deal me, and training in rotten weather is no different. Today we are going to take a look at the benefits that training in adverse conditions can give us.

0148 – KISS

/
When we think about dominating a violent encounter we have to make sure that we approach things from a realistic standpoint. We must consider reality. We must consider the generations of success that we are programmed with from birth. We must consider SIMPLICITY. Today we talk about how how to keep it SIMPLE!

0147 – Range Log

/
We spend a lot of time talking about how it is that we can extend our resources. Ammo is a pretty precious resource these days and anything we can do to increase the training effectiveness of rounds we send down range can help to improve our training buck. With that end in mind I have started to play with a website to track my training with live ammo.

0140 – FF What USPSA Is and Isn’t

/
For years I have heard the debate about what competitive shooting is and isn't. It is kind like sighted fire vs. target focused shooting, .45 vs. 9mm, 1911 vs. Glock and AR vs. AK. The point is that all of the debates are non issues as there are positives and negatives to BOTH sides of ALL of these arguments. It all comes down to context! Today lets talk about what USPSA is and isn't. Follow the link to the video watch and listen. Then head out to a local match with a realistic expectation of the outcome!
