0250 – Interview With Ryan Workman Author of 50 State CCW App

/
Our smart phones are only as smart as the information they are able to provide us. Ryan Workman of Workman Consulting has made my phone smarter with his 50 State CCW app. The app puts important information at my finger tips relating to concealed carry and the law. If you travel between states, you need to have this app to help you decipher the complex laws surrounding CCW in multiple states.

0240 – Proper Maintenance of Life Saving Tools

/
It is really a pretty simple. Life saving tools have to work. Your seat belts must function every time you wreck your car. Smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and sprinklers must work every time there is a fire. You should be getting the point. When your life is on the line you must have well maintained equipment. I have talked about some of the pass times I have pursued in my younger years. Among them were climbing and diving. Both pretty intense when it comes to life saving gear. You better bet that as a climber I took pretty good care of my harness, rope, carabiners and rack. Ignoring any signs of wear or damage could have deadly consequences in what would normally be a routine fall. Routine inspections and replacement of worn gear was a regular occurrence. The same was true with my diving gear. Being at 165' of 40' fresh water is no less dangerous that 165' off the deck. If gear fails the consequences are catastrophic. Maintenance takes place on an annual basis or at the first sign of any problems. Why would we treat our self-defense handgun any differently. We shouldn't.

0225 – Preparing for Cold Weather CCW

/
I really do like the cool weather of fall and winter. I know it doesn't come without its complications, but at the same time, I feel more able to mitigate those challenges than I do the challenges of hot weather. Today we are going to take a look at how we can more efficiently carry our self-defense tools in cold weather. The tips and tricks apply to all of the tools you might choose to carry, but we will focus on the handgun as our primary example. Enjoy the show, enjoy the season and have a great day!

0211 – Measure Twice Cut Once

/
Measure twice, cut once. Clearly the axiom of a carpenter. I don't know where I first heard the expression, but for years I took it literally. I applied it only to when I was running a saw. As I look at the statement today, however, I can see how broadly it applies. Today we will take a look at when Measure twice, cut once applies to our safety, and when it doesn't.

0174 – How’s Your Training Going?

/
As a trainer and a teacher I have always placed learning pretty high on my list of things to do so it shouldn't be much of a surprise that I spend a good bit of my time learning. Today we will take a look at how you might organize your training and ways you can extend your resources to get that training in without breaking the bank.

0169 – Rules vs. Laws

/
One of the issues many of my students struggle with is when to carry a gun. For me that isn't so much of a struggle. The first thing I try to do is understnad the differences between rules and laws and why the difference matters. That is our topic for today. Enjoy the show.

0168 – Off Body Carry

/
I am a firm believer that there is no one carry system solution for everyone who would like to carry a gun. What works for me, works for me. There may be some folks who have success with a similar system, but it would be egotistical and wrong for me to think that my way is the way. In the same token, It would be pretty heady of me to poo poo another's system because it doesn't work for me. When it comes to off body carry. I have only seen one person who was able to pull it off consistently without major foul ups.

0152 – Download to Extend Your Resources

/
In today's computer age the word download is prevalent, however, when we head out to the range people tend to be more in the full capacity mindset. If a magazine holds 17 rounds we like to stuff it full. This only makes sense. Who pours half of a cup of coffee or has half a scoop of ice cream, or drinks half of a beer? The American way is to fill it up! Well just like in the previous examples loading our mags to partial capacity can have some benefits. Today we take a look at what the benefits might be to downloading our magazines.
