National Safety Month Gun Safety Campaign

Safety Solutions Academy is the name of my company and it shouldn't…

0295 - The Myth of the Do-All Self-Defense Handgun

/
I don't know about you, but I really enjoy firearms. For the past 21 years, I'm guessing there hasn't been a single day that has gone by that I haven't at least though about guns. Almost every day I have physical interaction with my defensive firearms, and as you know, I spend a lot of time training with, learning about and talking about my guns.

0290 - Interview with Jason Silva of Students for Concealed Carry

/
These days it seems like just about everyone has a horse in the Campus Carry debate. I look at it from the progun side. I went to college, my wife went to college, someday my kids may go to college. There is no reason why each of us wouldn't want to be able to protect ourselves while we are working toward that higher education. Campus carry is a hot debate and Jason Silva of Students for Concealed Carry is going to talk with us about it today.

0286 - If You are a Shooter, Check Your Carry-On Bags When You Travel

/
I end up traveling by air quite a bit both for pleasure and for business. This means that I end up taking guns onto airplane in my checked luggage quite often. Even when I don't take guns with me, I work to be pretty careful with my carry-on bags. There are all kinds of prohibited items that I use in the course of a day that could end up in my carry on if I'm not careful. Ammunition is one of those items. So, I check my bags.

0285 - Three Important Lessons to Take From Sanford, FL

/
We don't know all the details regarding the shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, and I don't expect that we ever will. At the same time, however, there are some lessons that can be taken from this situation that are based on the facts that are clear to us. It would be wrong to not take some time to look for the lessons in this situation and how we can apply these lessons to our own life to make sure that we don't find ourselves in a quagmire like we see being played out in the media.

0279 - What is a Professional Defensive Shooting Instructor?

/
Firearm sales are through the roof and many folks that are buying guns are doing so for defensive purposes. This coupled with the number of states that are making it easier to carry a firearm defensively leads to a boom in training and an increase in training companies. Any time an industry expands there can be some growing pains. Different folks become involved for different reasons, some good, some not so good. A new organization has begun to some together to try and provide some guidance to Professional Defensive Shooting Instructors and their customers on what should be expected in the industry. The organization, the Association of Defensive Shooting Instructors, developed the following code under the guidance of Rob Pincus, Grant Cunningham and Omari Broussard. Today I want to talk about the code and what it means to me.

0277 - First Shots with the Caracal F 9mm

/
If you haven't heard about the Caracal F it is time to take a look. I have spent a lot of time with 9mm, striker-fired pistols over the years and at first glance I really didn't think the Caracal was very different. It took me a bit of time to open my eyes and actually pay attention to see what this pistol has to offer.

0262 - An Interview with Rob Pincus of ICE Training et al

/
Rob Pincus has been a driving force in defensive shooting instruction for the past few years. His program Combat Focus Shooting is one of the most taught handgun systems around. Rob doesn't just focus on the shooting, He also closely examines combat and how what we do on the range will or will not apply to fighting, and is constantly examining instruction to find the most efficient way to deliver content to his varied audience. Whether you are an expert or a novice, a student or a teacher, Rob is someone you might want to pay attention to.

0259 - An Interview with Author and Revolver Expert Grant Cunningham

/
My interview with Grant Cunningham proves my point well that SHOT Show is an opportunity to gather knowledge as much as it is an opportunity to drool over new gear. Grant does a wonderful job of concisely sizing up some of the issues that folks are confronted with when they start to look at revolvers and how they fit into modern combatives.

0254 - Essential Interview With Dave Spaulding

/
Today we lead off SHOT Show with one of our favorite guests, Dave Spaulding of www.HandgunCombatives.com. Stay safe and have a great day!
