Aristotle said: “Whatever we learn to do, we learn by actually doing it: men come to be builders, for instance, by building, and harp players by playing the harp. In the same way by doing just acts we come to be just; by doing self-controlled acts, we come to be self-controlled; and by doing brave acts, we come to be brave.”
This past week I invested 4 days in instructor development ant the Combat Focus Shooting Instructors Conference. I didn’t take a gun with me and I only shot when instructors needed a student to teach. Yet, I made great improvements in my ability to teach defensive handgun topics. You see it isn’t about being a good shooter. Instead, it is a bout being a good teacher. According to Aristotle, to be a good teacher I must teach. That is what I did.
Grant Cunningham talks more about it here.Read Grant’s blog and think about what you need to get better at. Then, DO THAT!
