Air Travel With Firearms

0253 – My Preflight Checklist

/
Murphy is our constant companion. It never fails that "stuff" happens at the worst possible moment. the only thing worse than the stuff happening is the knowledge that we could have prevented the situation all together or taken action to mitigate the consequences. That is our topic in general today as we get ready to talk specifically about my pre flight check list.

0251 – Make Note of AED Locations

/
I can't speak for anyone else and thier life experiences, but without a doubt I have used my life saving skills more often and with greater consequence than my life taking skills. Just like our tactical training, we need to make sure that our medical training is up to date. AED's are becoming more and more common every day and they are life saving tools. it is estimated that 50% of people that die from cardiac arrest could be saved with a speedy application of an AED. Check out today's show to find out about what you need to know.

0250 – Interview With Ryan Workman Author of 50 State CCW App

/
Our smart phones are only as smart as the information they are able to provide us. Ryan Workman of Workman Consulting has made my phone smarter with his 50 State CCW app. The app puts important information at my finger tips relating to concealed carry and the law. If you travel between states, you need to have this app to help you decipher the complex laws surrounding CCW in multiple states.

0249 – Executive Ice Scraper Follow Up

/
I would love to tell you that I ALWAYS have my pistol with me. I do when I can, but like most people, there are times when I cannot have my guns. This week I did some traveling and just like most folks I wasn't allowed to carry my handgun onto the plane. That doesn't mean that I didn't have any tools that I could fight with if I needed to. That is where my Executive Ice Scraper comes into play.

0245 – The Christmas Spirit

/
Lets not forget that because it is Christmas we owe it to our husbands and wives, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers to be there to enjoy Christmas this year and for many more to come. Embrace the Christmas Spirit, but never forget that your innocent life has much more value than the life of scum no matter what time of year it is, and not just to your family, but to society as a whole. When someone has earned it, there is nothing wrong with giving the gift of multiple palm strikes to the face or shots to the torso. Get in the spirit and be generous!

0244 – Last Minute Christmas Shopping Cart Tactics

/
Here I am with something in both hands when it hits the fan. Because of how our bodies are wired even if I want to open my hand, drop my Angry Bird, and draw my pistol, I might find that to be a challenging prospect based on the grasp reflex that is often experienced in stressful situations. We can see this reaction in dash cam video where law enforcement engage in serious life or death conflicts while holding their citation book in their support hand. It is as if some one has bound the book to the hand. Imagine me, unable to break my grasp on a fluffy stuffed animal, unable to draw my pistol, beating off two dirtbags with a fluffy stuffed animal in each hand. A flailing, furry, mess for sure. Yeah, this is the kind of stuff that goes through my head.

0243 – Have a Place for Your Guests Coats and Purses

/
The last thing we want to have to face is illness or the death of someone we love. Imagine how your life would change if you found your child unconscious, siezing, unresponsive, blue lips, eyes rolled back in the middle of a family party. Yet that is exactly what we are asking for if we don't think about keeping bad stuff out of the reach of little people!

0242 – Use Holiday Cards to Update Your Contacts

/
Lets face it. When you NEED to get a hold of someone, you NEED to get a hold of someone. The situation might be as simple as a flat tire or a dead car battery, or as serious as a sick family member or a missing child. In times of need, those individuals who have resources are more likely to influence their outcome. Resources come in many shapes and sizes. In a violent encounter we may draw on our training resources, our CCW, or our unarmed combative skills, but in all of the examples I gave above, car problems or a sick or missing family member communication might be vital to resolving the situation. With our modern communication devices, there is no reason that you should not have all of the information you need right at your fingertips. A mechanic or tow truck, no problem. These resources can make dealing with automotive challenges a breeze. Although dealing with a sick or missing family member is typically a much more severe issue, again communication can help. Having poison control, the family doctor and emergency resources at your finger tips can mean the difference between life and death. When your teenager isn't where they are supposed to be, having their school number, work number and all of their friends numbers ready to use could make the difference between a sigh of relief and a long night of worrying or worse!
