Each of us has our favorites in life. Favorite food, favorite car, favorite movie. The list goes on. What makes something our favorite is probably different from person to person but if we were to try and generalize about favorites we might assume that favorites are things that we have a positive history with, things that make us feel comfortable, things we can count on. Favorites aren't limited to the comforts of life. Let's face it, we ALL have a favorite handgun! The question that I pose to you is, if you have a favorite why isn't your sweetheart stuffed in your waist band right now?

0122 - Carry Weapon Condition

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunities it provides to be reminded of my humble beginnings. In the past 12 years or so that I have become increasingly interested in self-defense and concealed weapons I have had the opportunity to gain a tremendous amount of knowledge. Working with students who are where I once was is an excellent reminder of where it is that I came from. That being said, I don't ever remember being in a place where I didn't carry a gun with a round in the chamber. I am always surprised as to how often I read on the www how people are unsure as to whether they should carry their gun with a round in the tube.

I am a huge fan of First Aid Gear. When people ask me why I carry a gun I explain to them that because despite the efficiency of the 911 system and the professionalism of our law enforcement officers, a police response is most likely 3 or minutes away if I am involved in a violent encounter. That is assuming I can get to my phone to call immediately. Again as efficient as that is, it is probably about 2 minutes 50 seconds too late. In that 3 minutes I have the ability to save my own life, or the lives of others. Now this answer is a very well thought out logical answer based on why any firefighter or paramedic would tell you to get trained in first aid. There is a gap in time between when you call for help and when help actually arrives and in that time if you are trained in first aid you can give life saving aid.

We know that when we carry a handgun concealed everything has to work together to successfully carry and conceal our handgun on a daily basis and be able to deploy that handgun when that lethal threat presents itself. The first item most people begin to think about when it comes to CCW is the gun and I think that this is a mistake. There are many things to consider that can have a profound effect on the success or failure of a CCW system. One item that I think of as the foundation of a concealed carry system is the belt.

This weekend at the show, Jamie Onion from Western Reserve Tactical was busting my chops about the podcast. Jamie is a regular listener, and we were talking about how fascinated and enamored he is with the quality content when he listens to my show. He did however give me fair warning, that he would be forever done with The Safety Solutions Academy Podcast when I started to cover topics like Tactical Boot Lacing. Well...
