Today’s show is a bit of a hodgepodge, but still certainly worth your time. Especially if you are interested in particularly practical guns like the Beretta APX and/or particularly good looking gins like the Wilson Combat EDC X9. We also talk about bias in the gun media and why I love my Mag Holder horizontal Magazine pouch.

In the middle of February I, spend a few days at O’Gara Training Facility in Montross, VA. While there I was the Guest of Beretta USA and Beretta Defensive Technology. The purpose of the trip was to gain some insight into Beretta, the APX and the Tikka T3X TAC A1 rifle along with some other products for Athlon Outdoors.
We spent 2 days on the range with the APX and the Tikka T3X Tac A1 as well as time in the classroom, and on the track. IT was a great experience. Thank you to Athlon Outdoors for selecting me to represent the company and to Beretta for their hospitality.
Today we also chat about the Wilson EDC X9 a new 1911ish pistol that her the market on Monday. I haven’t shot or handled the gun and I will probably avoid doing so, if possible as it is an expensive gun that I don’t need. I took some time to write about my problem with the Wilson Combat EDC X9 at Safety Solutions Academy. Having all these guns in your face can be an issue for sure! I was asked to edit a video for this pistol as well and you can see the EDC X9 video at Tactical-life.com as well.
Beware of Bias
Bias is a real thing and the worst part about bias is that we often do not recognize that it is influencing us. It is something that I concern myself with at Safety Solutions Academy as I am trying to share with you quality educational information that happens to be on a topic where your life may someday hang in the balance. For this reason, I have to be as aware of my biases as possible and I feel that it is important that we have open and honest conversations about bias so that you can make the most informed decisions possible.
Why I Carry in a Horizontal Mag Pouch
My decision to carry in a horizontal mag pouch is all about efficiency. I started with a horizontal pouch about 4 years ago because it seemed so logical. Placing the magazine just to the left of my belt buckle horizontally put a fresh magazine closer to where I would need it when my gun runs dry. In addition, with the bullets pointing to the right and down, the magazine is in line with the way my arm works. Mechanically, grabbing a mag from this position is more efficient than with the top of the mag pointing down. Finally, it is easier to conceal a horizontal mag than it is to conceal a vertical mag.
My carrier of choice is Magholder.com mag pouches. I have been carrying in my current Mag Holder horizontal pouch for ages and it does a great job of keeping my mag exactly where it needs to be until I need to reload my gun. Then the mag is right where it should be.
Earlier this week I got a package from Mag Holder. I had ordered 3 horizontal mag pouches which I happily paid for and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Mark had refunded my order in full. I will do my best not to let that impact my opinion of the product. Plain and simple, I have been thrilled with my Mag Holders!
